“My work experience at the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Museum of Classical Archaeology has been a fantastic week"
“I have massively enjoyed my week at the Fitzwilliam Museum and have gained a new understanding as to what goes on in a museum”
Opportunities for ages 13 to 18 years and 16 to 18 years
Are you aged between 13 and 18 years old and ever wondered what it is like to work in a museum?
The University of Cambridge Museums has created two Work Experience programmes, specifically designed for young students who would like to know more about working in a museum environment.
Work Experience Taster Days
When – 3 times a year in the school holidays.
Who is this for – There are 30 places available for students aged between 13 and 18 years.
What is it - For those who aren’t sure, we run three Work Experience Taster Days in the school half term holidays. These are for those who are aged between 13 and 18 years old and involve a whole day at the Fitzwilliam Museum with special hands on sessions and behind the scenes activities for 30 students. This interactive day will give the students an idea if they are interested in taking part on our Work Experience Weeks programme.
How do I get involved – The Work Experience Taster Days will be advertised here. When you see them advertised, please contact the Opening Doors Project Coordinator.
The next Work Experience Taster Day will take place in October 2017, date tbc.
View an example timetable for the day here.

Please return your Expression of Interest form to firstname.lastname@example.org (or Opening Doors Project Coordinator, University of Cambridge Museums, c/o The Fitzwilliam Museum, Trumpington Street, Cambridge CB2 1RB) by 12noon Monday 27 March 2017. The successful candidates will be informed during the week beginning 10 April 2017.
The purpose of these week long sessions is to give the participants an experience of what it is like to work at a museum or collection and how the different localities compare. The subject matter at the host museums is secondary to the actual experience.
