{"id":7661,"date":"2017-06-22T09:00:11","date_gmt":"2017-06-22T08:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.museums.cam.ac.uk\/blog\/?p=7661"},"modified":"2017-07-06T10:18:55","modified_gmt":"2017-07-06T09:18:55","slug":"lyme-regis-rocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.museums.cam.ac.uk\/blog\/2017\/06\/22\/lyme-regis-rocks\/","title":{"rendered":"Lyme Regis Rocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Over the May Bank Holiday weekend, four Cambridge organisations took part in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fossilfestival.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lyme Regis Fossil Festival<\/a>.<\/h2>\n<p>Over the past few years the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bas.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">British Antarctic Survey<\/a> (BAS) have been joined by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ukaht.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UK Antarctic heritage Trust<\/a> (UKAHT) and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spri.cam.ac.uk\/museum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Polar Museum<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spri.cam.ac.uk\/\">Scott Polar Research Institute<\/a> (SPRI). By pooling our resources we were able to offer substantially more to festival visitors this year including; ask the expert a question using the walkie-talkies, fossil rubbing, ammonite themed craft activities, Antarctic small world play with fake snow, dressing up in old and new polar gear, penguin height measuring, exploring an Antarctic field camp, looking at Antarctic fossils as well as recent biological finds.<\/p>\n<div id=\"gallery-masonry\" class=\"gallery-masonry\">\n<a href=\"#gallery-masonry\" id=\"gallery-item-7663\" class=\"gallery-item\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.museums.cam.ac.uk\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/antarctic-odd-ones-out-crop.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"354\" alt=\"\" \/>\n<div class=\"gallery-caption\">Antarctic odd ones out?<\/div>\n<div class=\"gallery-item-lar\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.museums.cam.ac.uk\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/antarctic-odd-ones-out-crop.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"354\" alt=\"\" \/>\n<div class=\"gallery-meta\"><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i> Back to gallery<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>In addition to the geological and Antarctic themed stands we also ran drop in sessions for teachers with the <a href=\"http:\/\/jurassiccoast.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jurassic Heritage Coast Trust<\/a> education team. This was a great chance for us to meet teachers and inspire them to think more broadly about incorporating geology into their teaching.
