“My work experience at the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Museum of Classical Archaeology has been a fantastic week"

“I have massively enjoyed my week at the Fitzwilliam Museum and have gained a new understanding as to what goes on in a museum”

Opportunities for ages 13 to 18 years and 16 to 18 years

Are you aged between 13 and 18 years old and ever wondered what it is like to work in a museum?

The University of Cambridge Museums has created two Work Experience programmes, specifically designed for young students who would like to know more about working in a museum environment.

Museum Experience Days

When – 3 times a year in the school holidays.

Who is this for – There are 30 places available for students aged between 13 and 18 years.

What is it - For those who aren’t sure what goes on in a museum, we run three Museum Experience Days in the school half term holidays. These are for those who are aged between 13 and 18 years old and involve a whole day at the Fitzwilliam Museum with special hands-on sessions and behind the scenes activities for 30 students.

How do I get involved – The next Museum Experience Day will take place on 21 February 2019 from 10am until 3.30pm. These sessions are for students aged between 13 and 18 years old.  For more details and to book a space, please contact the Opening Doors Project Coordinator, Spaces do fill up quickly so do get in touch soon.

The next Museum Experience Day will take place on 21 February 2019.

Work Experience Weeks

The deadline for our work experience weeks has now passed and we will no longer be accepting expressions of interest. The successful students will be notified by Monday 28th January 2019.

University of Cambridge Museums are pleased to announce the dates of the 2019 Work Experience Weeks

1st – 5th July

8th – 12th July

15th – 19th July

Who is it for – Those aged between 14 and 18. Four students are chosen for each week.

What is it - The purpose of these week long sessions is to give the participants an experience of what it is like to work in a museum or collection and how the different localities compare. The subject matter at the host museum is secondary to the actual experience. Each week will be split between the Fitzwilliam Museum and one other museum in Cambridge, which are yet to be confirmed.
