Museums and collections

Uncover the secrets of this Bronze Age civilisation as you take a close look at objects and historical photographs from Mohenjo-Daro, one of the largest cities in the Indus Valley.  Archaeologists have not yet deciphered the Indus Valley script, will your students get close to decoding this ancient language?

Duration: 1 hour

Session Format: Students will be divided into two groups. One group will go up to the World Archaeology gallery (second floor), where a Museum teacher will lead a 30 minute taught session and deciphering exercise. The other group will go to the World Anthropology gallery (first floor) where they will complete a self-directed activity inspired by objects from India. After 30 minutes the groups will swap and will finish the visit with short plenary session.

Available: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. All Seasons.

“The team worked hard to ensure the visits were interactive and engaging. Many of our pupils left the museum considering a future in either archaeology or anthropology!”
