“This incredibly hands-on session engaged pupils of all levels… The [Museum] teachers were engaging and knowledgeable about the artefacts, so it meant pupils could ask questions and be enthused about the history of the artefacts”.
About the Session
Students will use their senses to explore the sounds, sights and smells of the past. By handling ancient objects and using MAA’s multisensory bags, pupils will consolidate their chronological understanding and identify the similarities and differences between ways of life in different time periods.
Duration: 1.5 hours
Session Format: A museum teacher will lead the first 30 minutes of the session in the Cambridge Gallery (ground floor). Pupils will learn simple actions as a way of remembering the names and characteristics of each time period. The students will then be divided into two groups. One group will remain in the ground floor completing a self-guided activity using MAA’s multisensory bags. The other group will go to the second floor to create a ‘tool timeline’ using handling objects such as a hand-axe, an arrowhead and a scraper. After 30 minutes the groups will swap and will finish the visit with short plenary session.
Available: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. All Seasons.
