Great St Mary's, The University Church, Senate House Hill, CB2 3PQ.

Who

No booking necessary, although you can email nataliel@gsm.cam.ac.uk if you have any questions or accessibility requirements. The church is accessible to wheelchairs and mobility vehicles, although it is not possible for chairs to access our small side chapel (all activities can be made available outside the chapel).

Step out of the sun and into the cool of Great St Mary’s church, for a variety of craft activities on an environmental theme. Maybe you’d like to make a butterfly or other bug? Or you could try your hand at designing an ‘eco’ building (a church, school, supermarket – or choose a building of your own!). There will be a wide range of high quality art supplies available to minimise our use of environmentally-unfriendly materials, such as plastic (there is no glitter here!), so you can use your imagination to create freely.

You will also be able to learn about local habitats in Cambridge, and the plants and animals that thrive there.

As always, there will be a play area set up for babies and toddlers, and there will be a selection of picture books and nature-themed reading for those who prefer to explore through books. As well as enjoying some crafts and play, you are free to look around the church, which was one of the first meeting places for the University of Cambridge and has welcomed various famous figures over the years, including Queen Elizabeth I.

Great St Mary's is inclusive and everyone is welcome.

If you would like to attend on both days (28 July and 4 August), there will be some different craft options on each occasion, along with areas for self-led crafts.

This event is part of Summer at the Museums 2025.
