An exploration of life in Victorian England through the portraits, landscapes and story paintings in Gallery 2 at the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Duration: 2 hours

About the Session 

Find out about the peoples and cultures of Mesoamerica and South America. See and handle objects from Peru, Mexico and even the far corners of the Amazon rainforest.  From modern jewellery to ancient potatoes, this session will help students better understand the cultural diversity of Latin America.

Shape, form, texture and materials are discussed as we discover sculpture in the museum from ancient to modern.

Why, how and what do artists paint? Looking closely at just a few paintings, we explore how artists use line, shape, colour, texture and composition to express their ideas.

This session encourages children to look closely at the objects in the Fitzwilliam Museum galleries to discover more about Roman beliefs, technology and everyday life.
