The Museum of Cambridge is delighted to once again be involved in Twilight at the Museums

Join an evening of exploration and see the Museum in a new Light. Magic Lanterns - popular image projectors used for entertainment and education for 250 years - will guide you through a story of Cambridge's history in this one-of-a-kind event. The Museum will highlight some key objects from its collection relating to both the story and lights in the city.

The morning session, 10-11.30am, is suitable for children aged 18 months-5 years and their parents and carers.

Note: A family ticket is for up to 2 adults with up to 3 children.

Drop-in runs 10am-12pm

These free events build upon our ‘Family Welcome Project’, a participatory research project with the North Cambridge Child and Family Centre.

No need to book, just drop in

Explore the Garden’s glasshouse range after dark to join in with our night-time hunt for orchids! Discover amazing species from all around the world and learn about the clever adaptations of orchids, from their spongy, water-absorbing roots to their tiny dust-like seeds. With more orchid species than birds and mammals combined, this adventure is filled with wonders from the plant world!

Join us for a night-time adventure at our special after-hours opening for families. We are turning our lights down very low, so bring a torch and search the museum for dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, some of whom roamed Cambridgeshire hundreds of thousands of years ago.

Drop in to our hands-on activity stations for further investigations: discover minerals that glow in the dark under UV light and explore beautiful, colourful minerals close up, under our powerful microscopes.

Shipwreck ahoy! We need your help to reunite the hero Odysseus with his shipwrecked men.

Twilight at the Museums: Battle of the Twilight Beasts

Visit the Museum after hours and help decide who wins the Battle of the Twilight Beasts. Uncover the secret senses and amazing adaptations of creatures that live in low light conditions, and vote for your favourite. Take our twilight trail around the Museum, handle real zoological specimens, and see our skeletons in a new, more colourful light.

The Fitzwilliam Museum invites you to experience our collection and galleries under a different light...

Come to get hands on with free, activities in the galleries. Enjoy live mime performances that will bring the artworks to life. Get cosy and read your favourite stories together, or pick up a self -led activity at the entrance that will take you to explore the museum.

All activities are free, simply turn up. Activities in the galleries have limited capacity.

We invite families with children who have additional sensory needs to join us for our Studio Sunday Relaxed Session. These quieter art making workshops aim to provide a comfortable creative experience at Kettle’s Yard.

In our Clore Learning Studio, participants can make art inspired by artworks and ideas at Kettle’s Yard, supported by artists and volunteers. No prior art experience is required.

Activities are designed for children ages 3–11 and we encourage parents and carers to create alongside their child.
