These free events build upon our ‘Family Welcome Project’, a participatory research project with the North Cambridge Child and Family Centre.

At the Disability Friendly Opening, the museum will be open exclusively for families with children with sensory sensitivities. This event is aimed at children with special educational needs who usually find visiting museums overwhelming due to conditions that affect their sensory processing and/or have a developmental disability.

The afternoon session, 1-2pm, is suitable for babies aged 0-18 months and their parents and carers.

 

Notes: A family ticket is for up to 2 adults with up to 3 children.

 


 

The morning session, 10-11.30am, is suitable for children aged 18 months-5 years and their parents and carers.

Explore the animal kingdom with stories and play. Discover animals that are awake at night and asleep in the day, and create an owl mask to take home with you.

This expert-led session is suitable for children aged 2-5. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

There are two sessions to choose from one at 10.30am and another at 11.30am. Both sessions are the same.

The Fitzwilliam Museum invites you to experience our collection and galleries under a different light...

Come to get hands on with free, activities in the galleries. Enjoy live mime performances that will bring the artworks to life. Get cosy and read your favourite stories together, or pick up a self -led activity at the entrance that will take you to explore the museum.

All activities are free, simply turn up. Activities in the galleries have limited capacity.

Go on an underwater safari around the Museum of Zoology finding amazing marine animals, handle real sea shells and hear stories about life in the sea.

This session is suitable for children aged 2-5. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

There are two sessions , one at 10.30 and another at 11.30. Both sessions are the same. 

Please book ahead. 

Travel around the world in the Museum to find out how animals cope with the cold. Then settle down for some cosy stories and make your own hibernating hedgehog to take home with you.

This event is suitable for children aged 2-5. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
