At this Disability Friendly Opening, the Museum of Zoology will be open exclusively for families with children with sensory sensitivities. This event is aimed at children with special educational needs who usually find visiting museums overwhelming due to conditions that affect their sensory processing and/or have a developmental disability.

We will be ensuring a quieter environment at the Museum so that you and your family can explore comfortably. There are very limited spaces to keep the museums from feeling too overwhelming. We will turn off any sounds and will control the lighting as best we can. We provide a chill-out space with sensory lighting if your child needs a break.

About the museum:

Marvel at a world of animals, from tiny insects to mighty whales. With fascinating displays, fun family trails, and hands-on activities, the Museum of Zoology is the perfect place for children to discover the incredible diversity of life on Earth.

Join Roz and Sam from the Museum of Zoology who will be guiding families around the galleries and running handling sessions where you can see display items up close.

This event is free to attend but booking is required. Please book places for any family members that will be attending too.

Prior to the event you’ll be sent out a visual story.

If you have any questions about the session, please email: info@museums.cam.ac.uk

We look forward to welcoming you to the museum.
