Where are our borders? For people on the move – whether refugees, migrants or tourists - borders are not always where we assume them to be. This talk will engage with politics of borders, migration policies, as well as the growing role of islands as part of border politics.

Dr Tugba Basaran is Director of the Centre for the Study of Global Human Movement at the University of Cambridge. Her research is on rights and responsibilities and she is the author of ‘Security, law and borders: At the limit of liberties’. Her research is located at the intersection of politics, law and society, examining global practices of governance with emphasis on legal borders and legal infrastructures, claims to extra-territoriality and the production of indifference, law’s distinction between liberal and illiberal and tensions between state and empire.

If you would prefer to attend this talk virtually, bookings are also available for joining online.
