In this two-part course you will begin to develop your own technique working with watercolour paint. Structured around a restricted palette of five colours we will explore the opportunity of watercolour in depicting the landscape of the Cambridge University Botanic Garden. Led by professional artist and award winning painter John Wiltshire, you will extend your knowledge and experience of the technique with creative and exploratory practical exercises and learn how to apply these approaches in creating your own paintings.

The course includes a kit of selected materials to allow you to experiment with professional quality paints and products and follow the course demonstrations. Using the limited palette approach of five selected colours from the beginner’s course you will explore a looser approach to constructing a painting. The simplification of the five colour system provides a great foundation from which you can develop and experiment with this wonderful painting medium. There will also be a resource of Botanic Garden landscape photographs provided from which you can work.

This course is suitable for both those who attended John’s course earlier in the year “Introduction to watercolour:  painting the garden landscape”, or those who have some experience and wish to improve their watercolour technique.
